1991 - 2000 : High technology and respect
Now, more than ever, the transporter must respond to the needs of his customers:he has to deliver the right product, at the right time, to the right place for the least cost.

National and International development
From 1985, the transport sector is stimulated by an increase in exchanges, regional and national economies becoming increasingly inter-dependent. Small transport businesses are created to meet local needs. At the same time, grouping of larger businesses is giving birth to veritable international transport networks.

Profitable, high performance and comfortable vehicles
Vehicles are considered to be profit making production tools, designed for intense usage. The Long distance truck can cover more than 150,000km a year. Driving conditions are also improved. Vehicle safety is reinforced through a system which avoids wheels from blocking after sever braking and cabin comfort is heading for luxury. Isolated from the noise and vibrations of the engine, the cabin now offers comfort levels which minimise driver fatigue and increase reliability.
Widespread use of low profile tyres
The growing trend in the 1980s is the increased use of low profile tyres. These tyres are developed to take the centre of gravity of the truck to the lowest point. In thi way, volume can be increased enabling increased profitability. These new tyres also improve road holding. In 1990, Michelin is the first manufacturer of very low profile tyres just as it had been the first with the original low profiles of the 1950s.
Regoove and retread: For maximum life.
The advancements in manufacture produce casings with exceptionally long life - up to 600,000km thanks to the dual practice of retreading and regrooving. Good, effective tyre management enables reduced running costs.
Segmentation: to respond better to the needs of the customer
Not all tyres are required to deliver the same performance: a tyre on a building site will need to perform in a different way to a long distance tyre. Engineers are constantly looking for an effective tyre solution adapted to the needs of each user. Sophisticated tools enable the identification of criteria which condition how the tyre works and the simulation of its behaviour.
